Announcements

As we get closer to the event, we start having more announcements and updates for our attendees. You’ll still see messages on our Facebook group and Twitter feed, but we’ll put them all here too. If you have any queries, just email us and we’ll do our best to answer your questions.

29th July 2012 – Gender neutral and accessible toilets

There are both gendered and non-gendered toilets available in Student Central.

Non-binary gendered people should not use the accessible toilets as gender neutral unless they also have specific access needs, to ensure these are available for those with mobility and access needs.

28th July 2012 – We’re very sorry!

Today we sent out an email to everyone registered for BiCon 2012. A technical hitch meant that instead of hiding the email addresses of our attendees, they were visible to everyone. We take confidentiality very seriously, and we sincerely apologise for this error.

11th July 2012 – First draft of the BiCon daytime programme

28 June 2012, Want accommodation? Book NOW!

Booking for accommodation closes tomorrow. If you do not send your registration form to us by midnight on Friday, you will not be able to stay on site. We cannot extend this deadline!

25 June 2012, Banking Trouble

If you’ve made a payment to BiCon in the last few days and not had a confirmation email, don’t panic! We’re caught up in the current RBS/NatWest banking strife, so please expect delays.

21 June 2012, One week left to register!

If you want to book accommodation at BiCon, you must register by 29th June.

15 June 2012, Booking closing soon

If you want accommodation, please register for BiCon in the next two weeks, as booking closed on 29th June. We will still accept bookings without accommodation after this date.

7 June 2012, BiReCon now taking bookings!

BiReCon, BiCon’s academic little sister is now taking bookings. Go to the BiReCon website to book your place. You can read details of the programme there.

If you’ve booked for BiCon, you can attend BiReCon free, but please let BiReCon know you’re going!

30 May 2012, Call for volunteers

Have we told you how much we LOVEĀ  volunteers?

We’re looking for lovely people to help out in a few ways. Please email us (registration email address removed) if you’d like to get involved.

On the registration desk. If you’d like to offer an hour our so of your time to sit at the registration desk and help out with signing people in and answering questions, please let us know. You don’t need any experience!

As a first aider. If you’ve got a first aid at work or similar certificate, or you’re a medical professional, please consider joining our team of first aiders.

As a listener. If you’d like to volunteer for the listening service and you have a relevant qualification, please get in touch.

Gophering. We often need errands running, help putting up signs and decorations, and people to help with luggage. If you’re an active type who is happy to donate an hour or two of your time, do let us know!

29 May 2012, Equalities Fund closing soon

If you’d like to apply to the Equalities Fund, please do so by 1st June. We will not accept applications after this date.

26 May 2012, BiCon does Pride season!

If you’d like to come and meet a member of our team, or one of our supporters or representatives, you can visit us at some of the many Pride events happening this summer. Here’s where we’ll be:

Birmingham; 2nd June

Oxford; 16th June

World Pride, London; look for the bisexual contingent in the parade, 7th July

… we expect to be adding more dates soon!

20 May 2012, What time should I book my train tickets for?

We’ve been getting queries about what the best time to arrive at BiCon is, and the answer is: it depends!

BiReCon begins at 10.30 on the morning of Thursday 9th August, with BiCon proper beginning with the opening plenary at 9.30 the next day. If you don’t want to participate in BiReCon, you can still arrive on Thursday to sign in, pick up your room keys and settle in – don’t worry, the bar will be open!

If you’re driving to BiCon please let us know by emailing enquiries email address removed, so we can make sure you have a parking permit for the event.

We’re aiming to end with the closing plenary on 13th August at 12.15, with our official ‘going home time’ at 1.30pm.

16 May 2012, Equalities Fund

The Equalities Fund deadline for applications is in just over 2 weeks, on 1 June. Please apply before then to be considered.

11 May 2012, Access Report

You can now find an access report covering accommodation and external areas on our website. NB, this page was edited for clarity on 13th May.

10 May 2012, Children at BiCon

Don’t forget, if you’re bringing children to BiCon 2012, you need to register by Monday 14th May, as those bringing under-16s are housed off site. If you register after this date, we won’t be able to guarantee accommodation.

8 May 2012, Deadlines fast approaching!

There are some deadlines fast approaching, so here’s a quick reminder of when you need to be 8 organised by:

If you are coming to BiCon with children under 16, you need to register before 14 Mat 2012. Child-friendly accommodation is off-site and space are limited. We cannot guarantee availability after this date.

If you would like to apply to the Equalities Fund, the closing date is 1st June 2012.

The deadline for booking accommodation is 29 June 2012. If you would like to stay on site, please register before this date.

2nd May 2012, Cooking facilities in the accommodation

We’re sorry to announce that the venue does not supply cooking equipment, crockery or cutlery. BUT! We’ve secured discounts and special deals at a number of local eateries! For a comprehensive list of what your accommodation contains, see here.
